Potts Selected to CoSIDA Academic All America Team

Morehead State Rifle's Alexa Potts has joined elite company. The recently graduated Potts has been named a First-Team Academic All-American as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

Potts is a member of the women's Division I at-large first team, a prestigious group of 15 student-athletes from across the country with the highest academic, athletic and civic accomplishments. Among the group, Potts is just one of three not from a Power 5 Conference. The women's at-large team consists of individuals in all sports except soccer, volleyball, basketball, softball and cross country/track and field.

She is the first Morehead State student athlete to earn a first-team AAA nod since 2006 when track and field Brian Babcock earned the honor. Overall, she is the first AAA from MSU since 2016 when Baseball's Matt Anderson and football's Colt Briggs were bestowed the accolades. Potts is the 13th Eagle to ever be named first team and the 35th overall since 1972 to be on any team. She is just the second-ever rifle athlete to earn AAA status, joining Garry Garrett from 2003.

Potts graduated with a 4.0 cumulative GPA and earned a Bachelor of Arts in History and Legal Studies with a minor in Spanish.

At Morehead State, she was a member of the George M. Luckey Jr. Academic Honors Program. She was an Undergraduate Research Fellow for three years, where she presented her research on travel writing in Kentucky at the Kentucky Philological Association and the Celebration of Student Scholarship in 2018. She also represented the Caudill College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences at the 2017 Idea Festival in Louisville.

She was named the 2019 Outstanding Undergraduate Student in History and the 2020 Outstanding Student in HPPGL and Legal Studies. She completed three terms as attorney general for the Student Government Association (SGA). She also was a member of the MSU Flute Ensemble, the Societas Pro Legibus and Sigma Delta Pi - National Collegiate Hispanic Honor Society.

On the range, Potts was a two-time All-American in Air Rifle and helped the Eagles win the program's first-ever Ohio Valley Conference title in 2020. She was First-Team All-OVC for Smallbore and Air in 2018-19 and 2019-20. Potts holds virtually all program records as well.

In 2018-19, she qualified for the NCAA Championships in Air Rifle.
