MSU Athletics unveils Legacy Club

MSU Athletics

Morehead State Athletics is excited to announce the launch of the Legacy Club, an exclusive membership group geared toward student-athlete alums and former support staff of all eras.

The Legacy Club is a part of The Eagle Family Fund and provides former MSU student athletes the opportunity to maintain a lifelong connection with MSU Athletics.

Alums can become a charter member if they join The Legacy Club in the inaugural year (2020-21) or the first year post-graduation. Membership is only a $100 contribution (or just $8.34 per month).

"The mission is to create an atmosphere and culture whereby former MSU student athletes promote Eagle Athletics through The Legacy Club. The club will promote and honor the contributions made by former MSU student athletes and also strive to provide members with the opportunity to foster and maintain relationships across different sports and generations," said Assistant Director of Athletics Sara Hacker. "Through a strong and active membership, the aim is to make a significant difference in the lives of our current and former student-athletes."

Membership is open to any former MSU student athlete who was on an official team roster. There is also membership for support staff (manager or athletic trainer) or anyone who served at least three years as a coach or administrator within MSU Athletics.

"All former and current Eagle student athletes truly experience the meaning of competition within athletics and it carries with them throughout life,” said Wayne Martin, a men's golf alum and former men's basketball head coach from 1978-87.

"Athletics is never extra-curricular, it's co-curricular. I experienced that not only as a former student athlete for the Eagles but also as a head coach of Men's Basketball. My mind was made up when I was an eighth grader. I was going to be an Eagle. It was the first time I attended a game at MSU. I stepped into Wetherby Gym and felt the overwhelming enthusiasm and energy that has continued to stay with me. I will forever encourage the legacy of the Blue and Gold to continue to grow,” added Martin.

Membership includes:

* Legacy Club Decal

* Bi-Annual Athletics Department electronic newsletter

* Monthly sport electronic newsletter

* Discounted tickets for MSU home athletic events

* Legacy Club directory access

* Virtual Meet & Greet opportunities with current team

* General admission access to one athletic event

* Access to Facebook Group

"The vision is that the Legacy Club will develop into a strong active organization with significant influence through financial and philanthropic support," said Hacker. "The program will add value to the college experience in the lives of our current student-athletes, and also serve as a resource for all of our former student-athletes, support staff and coaches or administrators."

The overall goals of the Legacy Club include:

* Increase the number of former student-athletes that contribute financially to support MSU Athletics through The Eagle Legacy Club

* Develop and strengthen relationships with current and former student-athletes

* Encourage current members to recruit additional members, as well as develop new committees

* Provide social and business networking opportunities for former and current student-athletes

* Assist in the career development of current and recent alumni-athletes

"I am excited about this opportunity to strengthen our Eagle Family," said Director of Athletics Jaime Gordon. "Morehead State student-athletes, coaches, and staff chose to become Eagles because of the connections they made with the university, teammates, community, and MSU Family. The Legacy club offers a means to relive amazing memories, strengthen relationships, and stay connected to a family that helped shape who we are today. I hope that everyone will consider becoming charter members. Once an Eagle, Always an Eagle!"
