Dr. Nicola Mason grew up in Cape Town, South Africa—surrounded by rhythm, music, and a passion for education. With a tuba in hand and a dream in her heart, she came to Morehead State in 2005 to study under one of the best in the world, Dr. Stacy Baker. But what started as a temporary academic journey soon turned into a lifelong connection. She met her future husband, Dr. Brian Mason, and a new chapter began.
Fast forward nearly 20 years—from South Africa to Kentucky classrooms, from assistant professor to department chair to assistant dean. And now? She’s the newly appointed Dean of the Volgenau College of Education.
Dr. Nicola Mason returns not just with experience, but with purpose—to lead, to invest in people, and to give back to the university that gave her so much.
