Women's Golf's Bridget Connolly Claims Second-Career OVC Golfer of the Week Award

MSU Athletics

After leading Morehead State women's golf to its first championship since 2015-16 at the Oyster Shuck Match Play, redshirt junior Bridget Connolly earned Ohio Valley Conference Golfer of the Week honors, the league announced Wednesday.

"We are very proud of Bridget and are thrilled for her success," said head coach Stephanie Barker. "She works diligently on and off the course and was quite impressive in all her matches."

The award marks the second of her career, having also won the award a year ago to the day (Feb. 26, 2019) to give her the first OVC Golfer of the Week award for the spring slate in consecutive seasons. Connolly's honor also ensures that the Eagles streak of claiming at least one OVC Golfer of the Week nod continues, extending to 12 straight seasons.

Overall, her selection is the 40th all-time OVC Golfer of the Week honoree for the program.

In addition the leading Morehead State to a team championship at the Oyster Shuck Match Play, Connolly also became the first Eagle in program history to conclude a match play event undefeated, taking each of her three matches this week.

She opened the event with a 4&3 victory in the Eagles' opening match against No. 7 seed Coastal Georgia, propelling the team to an opening-round sweep. In Morehead State's second match, Connolly again took her match 4&3, helping defeat No. 3 seed Radford. Facing No. 5 seed North Carolina A&T in the championship match, she took the final match by her largest margin of victory, 5&4.

Connolly's three victories at the Oyster Shuck Match Play ties for the most individual match victories in a single event, the second time in as many events Connolly has tied the mark. Her seven career match-play victories are tied for the most in program history.

Connolly and Morehead State return to the course and stroke play in three weeks at the Spring Break Shootout in Dade City, Fla. The two-day event tees off from Lake Jovita Golf and Country Club on March 16-17.
