MSU Women's Basketball on Longest Win Streak Since 1978-79

MSU Athletics

With its longest winning streak since the 1978-79 season still intact, Morehead State women's basketball (14-3, 4-0 Ohio Valley Conference) visits Tennessee State (6-7, 1-2 OVC) on Wednesday at 7 p.m. ET.

Four games into an unblemished conference slate, the Eagles lead the OVC in scoring defense, scoring margin, field goal percentage defense, three-point field goal percentage defense, rebounding offense, blocked shots, assists, turnover margin, and defensive rebounds. Morehead State is the only team besides Belmont with a 4-0 record in OVC play.

Coming off her fourth double-double of the season in last Saturday's 69-66 win over SIU Edwardsville, Eriel McKee looks to head the Eagles' offensive attack in Wednesday's trip to Nashville. The 5-foot-10 junior leads both MSU and the OVC in rebounding with 8.3 boards per game, and is second on the team in scoring - posting 11.6 points per contest, just 0.3 points behind the average mark of redshirt-senior Brianna McQueen.

Forwards Shay Steele and Brooke Todd headline Morehead State's frontcourt, anchoring a defense that blocks the third most shots in NCAA Division I. Steele's 169 career blocks rank among the OVC's all-time top 10, while Todd's 54 on the season are already good for the eighth best campaign in school history.

Tennessee State is led by senior forward Jayda Johnson, who posts a team-best 13.1 points per game and 27 total steals in 2016-17. Wednesday night will mark the Eagles' first of two meetings with the Tigers this season, dropping both matchups by a total of 10 points in 2015-16.
