Eagle Football Releases 2014 Schedule

MSU Athletics

The Morehead State football program has finalized its 2014 schedule and promotions. The Eagles have seven road games beginning Aug. 30 and five home contests starting Sept. 6.

"Our players and staff laid the groundwork for future success in 2013, and we're looking forward to 2014. We have a nice mix of quality returning players and talented newcomers, so it should be an exciting season for Eagle fans,” said MSU Head Coach Rob Tenyer.

Morehead State will host in-state opponent Pikeville (Sept. 6), Campbell (Oct. 4), Jacksonville (Oct. 11), Valparaiso (Oct. 25) and new foe Stetson (Nov. 15). Times will be announced at a later date.

The Pikeville game falls on Family Weekend and will feature a Blackout. The contest will also include a Freshman Run, where all first-year MSU students will be invited to lead the team onto the field.

The Campbell game will be played in conjunction with the university's Homecoming week. Details of all festivities will be announced at a later date.

A Celebration of Excellence, where youth athletes in all sports will be honored, will take place when Jacksonville visits Jayne Stadium.

Morehead for a Cure, which raises money for breast cancer and creates awareness for the disease, will be one of two promotions when Valparaiso comes to town. The other will be Excellence in Education, where students from local schools will be honored for their academic achievements.

The season finale against Stetson will feature a salute to former and current members of the armed forces. It will also be Senior Day as seniors and their families are recognized.

The Eagles will travel to Richmond (Aug. 30), Eastern Kentucky (Sept. 13), Davidson (Sept. 20), Dayton (Oct. 18), Butler (Nov. 1), San Diego (Nov. 8) and Charlotte (Nov. 22).

Richmond is a member of the Colonial Athletic Association. Eastern Kentucky plays in the Ohio Valley Conference and is MSU's rival in all other sports. Charlotte continues as an FCS Independent for one more year and will be joining Conference USA in 2015.

Butler and San Diego posted 7-1 marks in the Pioneer Football League a season ago en route to being two of the conference's tri-champions. Morehead State's last three PFL road opponents in 2014 went a combined 19-5 (.792) in conference play last year.

"We have another very challenging schedule ahead of us. Richmond, Eastern Kentucky and Charlotte will all be difficult non-conference opponents on the road. We also face two of last year's PFL tri-champions in Butler and San Diego,” added Head Coach Rob Tenyer.

Morehead State posted a 3-9 overall record and 3-5 league mark in 2013, but the Eagles lost just six players to graduation. MSU's top quarterback, running back, receiver, punter, kicker and five of its top eight tacklers are slated to return for the upcoming campaign.

Morehead State's annual Spring Game is set for Saturday, April 19. Tailgating will begin at 2 p.m. The first-ever Alumni Flag Football Game will follow at 4 p.m. Current players and coaches will then take center stage for a contest/workout at 5:15 p.m.
