Eagles Shutout Tennessee Tech

MSU Athletics

The Morehead State soccer team picked up its fourth straight victory, along with a second consecutive shutout, in a 1-0 win at Tennessee Tech Friday (October 25) at Tech Soccer Field.

With four straight Ohio Valley Conference wins, Morehead State (7-9-1, 6-2) has equaled its longest conference success streak since 2010. Tech (3-13-1, 1-6-1) dropped its eighth one-goal decision of the season.

The Eagles got the winner in the 25th minute. Freshman forward Angela Black powered in a long-range shot following a failed clearance off a corner kick. The tally was Black's fourth goal of the season and her second game-winner. Black nearly scored another 1:06 later, but her shot caromed off the post.

MSU was on the offensive for much of the opening 45 minutes, as it went into halftime with a 15-4 shot advantage. Tech put two of its four shots on goal, while MSU put four on target. The Eagles continued the offensive-minded play in the second half, outshooting Tech 9-1. Sophomore midfielder Karen Hilt nearly doubled the lead in the 80th minute when her shot from distance rattled the crossbar.

Sophomore goalkeeper Elizabeth Floyd finished the match with two saves, while Golden Eagle goalkeeper Jordan Brown finished with six. Floyd and the Eagle defense have not allowed a goal in the last 237 minutes.

MSU returns to action on Sunday (October 27) to face Belmont on Senior Day. The match is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
