Women's Golf Claims Program's First WGCA All-Scholar Team GPA Award

MSU Athletics

After earning five All-American Scholar recognitions from the Women's Golf Coaches Association earlier this summer, Morehead State women's golf has claimed another recognition for the team's efforts in the classroom, receiving the WGCA All-Scholar Team GPA Award for the 2019-20 academic year.

Awarded to the top-25 teams in Division I, II, & III and the top-10 teams in the NAIA ranked by cumulative GPA, the Eagles ranked 19th in Division I with a 3.82 team GPA during the 2019-20 academic year, a mark that also led all Morehead State programs in 2019-20.

"I'm always quite proud of our team for their efforts in the classroom, on the course, and in our community," said head coach Stephanie Barker. "This is an exceptional recognition for an exceptional group."

The recognition is the first in program history, as Morehead State becomes the sixth Ohio Valley Conference program to earn the honor. The honor marks the seventh time an OVC institution has claimed the award since its inception during the 2004-05 season.

During the 2019-20 academic year, all eight Morehead State women's golfers fashioned a GPA better than 3.00 including four members of the program who had perfect 4.000 GPAs.

Barker continued, "It's very exciting that they are recognized nationally for their diligence. Thanks to the wonderful support from our Eagle Center staff, our Eagles are traditionally are very good students and this year's team has certainly set the bar high!"
