Soccer Suffers OVC Setback Against SEMO

MSU Athletics

The Morehead State Soccer team suffered a 5-1 defeat against Ohio Valley Conference foe Southeast Missouri on a sunny Sunday afternoon at the MSU Recreation & Wellness Field.

The loss drops the Eagles to 4-10-1 overall and 2-4-1 in OVC play.

The Redhawks, who entered the match leading the league, improved their overall record to 9-4 while moving their conference mark to 6-1.

After Esmie Gonzales and Hailey Block scored goals to put the Redhawks up 2-0 after 20 minutes of play, the Eagles answered back quickly when freshman Eva Kiper played a through ball up field to junior Katie Quinn for a score. Quinn took one touch and drove the ball on the ground across the frame from left-to-right and passed the goalkeeper for the 27th minute goal.

The goal was Quinn's first of the 2019 season. Kiper earned the assist on the goal which is the first helper of her career.

The Eagles had a chance to tie the match two minutes later when sophomore Nicole Palmer had a look on a free-kick try from just outside the box sail a few inches high of the goal.

Southeast Missouri went on the score three second-half goals to put Morehead State away. Jennifer Brien (51st), Kennedy Jones (72nd), and Katie Lever (76th) each scored for the visitors in the final 45 minutes.

The Eagles return to action on Friday as they travel to Austin Peay for a match scheduled to get underway at 5:00 p.m. ET.
