Morehead State Women's Hoops Sweeps OVC Weekly Honors

MSU Athletics

For the first time this season, Morehead State women's basketball has swept the weekly Ohio Valley Conference honors.

Sophomore forward Eriel McKee claimed Player of the Week, junior guard Brianna McQueen was named Newcomer of the Week, and freshman guard Miranda Crockett was awarded Freshman of the Week. This marks the first time in program history MSU has swept the OVC weekly awards.

McKee collected her third double-double of the season in the 86-72 loss to USC Upstate. She played a clutch role for MSU against Kennesaw State, as the Owls made a push late in the fourth quarter. With three minutes left to play, Mckee stepped up and hit a three-pointer from the top of the key, putting the Eagles up by four and the Owls' run to an end. She finished the week with 40 points, 19 rebounds, and shot 50 percent from the floor.

McQueen, a transfer from East Tennessee State, made her debut with the Eagles on Saturday and made an immediate impact. The five-foot-three junior point guard scored 10 points and snatched eight rebounds against Kennesaw State. She added stability at the point guard position as the Eagles committed a season-low 14 turnovers.

Crockett shot better than 65 percent from the floor over the two-game period, collecting 35 points and 15 rebounds. With McQueen in the fold, Crockett moved to her natural position of shooting guard and proceeded to collect 20 points and 10 rebounds against Kennesaw State for her third double-double of the year.

MSU will finish out the non-conference portion of their schedule on the road at UC Santa Barbara on Monday with tip-off set for 10 p.m. ET.
