Tate and Crockett Earn OVC Weekly Honors

MSU Athletics

Morehead State junior guard Kay Kay Tate and freshman guard Miranda Crockett have earned their first career Ohio Valley Conference honors.

Tate has been announced as the OVC Newcomer of the Week, and Crockett has been named the Freshman of the Week for their performances against Marshall and Kentucky Christian.

Tate's debut was a memorable one as she scored 31 points and shot 11-of-24 from the floor against the Thundering Herd. She was the true scoring threat and played a vital role in MSU's 25-point second half comeback in the 104-101 loss. Tate continued to shine less than 24 hours later, collecting 12 points and five assists in the record-breaking 121-91 win over KCU.

"It was really big for her to step up against Marshall when we needed baskets; She thrives under pressure," said Head Coach Greg Todd. "She can play a very integral part for our team as the season goes along, and we are very happy to have her."

Crockett played complete games, adding various statistics to each game's box score. Against Marshall, she netted 15 points, grabbed four rebounds, dished out four assists, and swiped five steals. The following afternoon, she added 23 points, six rebounds, six assists, and seven steals.

"She had a great two games," said Todd. "She had more assists than turnovers, had some big steals and shot great from the floor. She really goes after it, plays hard and doesn't take any plays off."

The Eagles will play this Wednesday evening at Memorial Coliseum against No. 17 Kentucky at 7 p.m. ET.
