Morehead junior men's cross country athlete Jesse Moreno, senior Gary Monroe and women's junior Alex Morris all landed spots on the school's all-time top performance list Saturday at the Greater Louisville Classic at Tom Sawyer Park.
Moreno finished the men's gold race in 24:24:69, breaking his previous personal record by 25 seconds and coming in just nine seconds shy of Ron Duncan's school standard. Monroe crossed the line at 24:50.89, which is now the fifth-best 8K time in program history.
Morris led the way for the MSU women with a finish of 18:33:72. That is the eighth-best 5K effort in program history.
For the men, junior Jorge Gil-Juarez (25:52.75), junior Evan Childers (25:58.14), senior Desmond Bell (26:07.17), freshman Hunter Trenary (26:14.77), freshman Mason Blevins (26:26.03), sophomore Jeremy Ruppert (26:31.84), freshman Iszack Whitsell (26:38.77) and sophomore Landon Meserve (27:28.63) also competed.
The men finished 16th of 28 teams, ahead of two other Ohio Valley Conference squads.
Sophomore Mackenzie Butler (18:54:28), sophomore Hannah Mullins (18:58:89), junior Erica Parks (19:08:55) sophomore Haley Mullins (19:10.44), sophomore Alyssa Shifflett (20:03.65), junior Jasmyn Andrews (20:17.78) and senior Lindsay Marcum (21:20.60) also competed for MSU.
The women concluded with a 30th place finish. Both teams will compete October 17 at the Bradley Pink Classic in Peoria, Ill.
