Morehead State Soccer Ties Northern Kentucky

MSU Athletics

The Morehead State soccer team tied Northern Kentucky, 1-1, in double overtime Sunday (August 24) at NKU Stadium. The Norse struck first, but MSU senior forward Macy Cobb netted the equalizer just 1:07 later.

Both teams are now 1-0-1.

Following a scoreless first half, NKU's Macy Hamblin scored the opening goal at 49:46. Hamblin delivered a shot past MSU junior goalkeeper Elizabeth Floyd after passes from Aubrey Muench and Jaclyn Elmore led to a breakaway.

At 50:53, junior defender Kelsey Patera sent a free kick toward the box where Cobb finished a shot to the far left post. It marked Cobb's initial goal of 2014 and the 10th on her career. Patera was credited with her first career assist.

The teams played the two 10-minute overtime periods with only one shot combined. MSU's defense allowed just two shots on goal in 110 minutes and has now only surrendered four shots on target in the first 200 minutes of the season.

The Eagles took 12 shots, with seven on goal. Sophomore forward Angela Black tallied four strikes. Floyd was forced to make only one save. NKU goalkeeper Tanner Ruberg thwarted six MSU attempts.

Morehead State continues a season-opening four-match road stretch Friday (August 29) at Horizon League member Illinois-Chicago. Match time is set for 6 p.m.
