Sophomore outfielder LizzyMargagliotti's two-run home run in the top of the seventh inning helped lift the Morehead State softball team to a 3-1 game-two victory that helped salvage a split with East Tennessee State on Saturday (March 1) at Betty Basler Field.

Morehead State was held to just three hits in a 3-0 loss in game one. ETSU fell to 8-6, while MSU improved to 3-11.

Margagliotti, senior second baseman Stephanie Etter and junior third baseman Katie Raile had the hits in game one for MSU. Senior catcher McKenna Bartko (2-for-3 in game two) was the only Eagle with multiple hits in either game.

In game one, Kelsey Chernak had a pair of hits to lead ETSU, which scored its runs in the first, fifth and sixth innings. Brooke Baxter and Jackie Baird had two hits apiece for the Bucs in game two.

The Eagles tied game two at 1-1 in the third inning, using an ETSU throwing error that scored freshman outfielder Kayla McGuffey.

Freshman pitcher Megan Tymorek (2-6) took the loss in game one, as she allowed all three runs on eight hits with four strikeouts. The Chesterton, Ind., native retired 10 straight from the second to fifth innings. Taylor Carter (6-1) earned the win in the opener, striking out five hitters.

Junior Tanna Seuferer (1-4) picked up her first victory as an Eagle in the circle. She surrendered one run, on seven hits, with one strikeout and a walk. Katie Wolf (2-3) allowed three runs, two earned, on seven hits with two strikeouts and a pair of walks.

The two teams will decide the series with a single game on Sunday (March 2). First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
