Lund Earns OVC Top Honor

MSU Athletics

Morehead State sophomore Anna Appert Lund has been named adidas Ohio Valley Conference Women's Golfer of the Week for the period of Sept. 11-17.  It is her first weekly honor this season and the third of her career.

Appert Lund, a native of Bromma, Sweden, carded a career-best 68 on Monday at the William & Mary Invitational and finished the 54-hole event with a career-low 216.  She placed second for the second straight tournament, this time out of 51 golfers.

"Congratulations to Anna on this weekly honor from the conference office," Head Coach Stephanie Barker said.  "Anna has played very well in both of our 2013 fall tournaments.  We are excited about her sophomore year at Morehead State."

Morehead State won the nine-team tournament at the Kingsmill Resort and Plantation Golf Course.  The Eagles (881) finished 17 strokes ahead of runner-up Elon (898).  Host William & Mary (903) finished third and Richmond (907) fourth.

Morehead State's team score of 29-over-par was its best since shooting 20-over-par at the MSU Ocala Spring Invitational in March of 2012.  The course played at a par of 71 and yardage of 5,958.

"We had lots of good scores from several players in Virginia," Barker said.  "It was great for us to be under 300 in all three rounds and to finish with three individuals in the top 10.  We're looking forward to having a terrific school year."

Appert Lund was named the OVC's 2013 Golfer and Freshman of the Year after posting a league-best 75.6 stroke average.  She became just the second individual in conference history to earn both awards in the same season.

The Eagles continue their fall slate Sept. 23-25 when they travel to the Golfweek Conference Challenge in Wolcott, Colo.  MSU will play in five fall tournaments and five spring events before the OVC Championship in late April.
