Paul Supports Party Expansion

MSNBC

U.S. Senator Rand Paul says Republicans need to work harder to bring minorities, young people and women into the party. Paul was among the GOP leaders who spoke last weekend at a state party gathering in Louisville.

Paul says, although Republicans are doing pretty well in Kentucky, the party must expand its base to be more competitive in national elections.

Paul says Republicans need to craft a “Bill of Rights” agenda that emphasizes the party’s historic support for civil and voting rights, which can be accomplished without abandoning the GOP’s core message.

“We are the party of civil rights. From the very beginning, we’ve been the party of voting rights, of civil rights. In the 50’s, it was led by the Republicans. In the 60’s, it was led by two Republican senators in Kentucky. We are that party.” –Rand Paul

Paul says he doesn’t believe Republican support for a balanced budget amendment is hurting the party nationally.
