Augusta Receives Literacy Grant

MU News Bureau

The Augusta Independent School District will use a state grant to hire an instructor to improve literacy in grades K through 3, that’s according to Assistant Principal Brandi Brewer.

Brewer says the “Read to Achieve” award is for three years and will provide close to 50 thousand dollars each year.

“This program for Augusta being such a small school, we don’t really have the funding that a lot of other schools have, so we struggle at times to do these interventions with kids and I think sometimes we don’t get to reach all the kids we want to reach and with this intervention teacher, we’re gonna be able to reach so many kids and I think we’re gonna to watch our literacy scores continue to rise.” –Brandi Brewer

Brewer says the school district hopes to have the new literacy instructor on board by June.
