AmeriCorps Receives Funding

Almost five-million dollars in service grants is coming to Kentucky for various programs that support education, drug abuse prevention, reduce homelessness and aid the victims of domestic violence. 

The AmeriCorps funding is from the Corporation for National and Community Service.

Joe Bringardner is executive director of the Kentucky Commission on Community Volunteerism and Service.  He says the money benefits initiatives that serve thousands of people all over Kentucky.

Operation Unite is receiving more than 540-thousand dollars for math tutoring, promotion of healthy food choices and anti-drug education.

The MSU Corps at Morehead State is getting nearly 380-thousand dollars for the tutoring of low-achieving students and Teach for America is in line for almost 260-thousand dollars to fund classroom teachers in low-income, rural school districts.
