Technology Upgrades Needed In Rowan Schools

School And University

According to one official, the Rowan County School System is in real need of money to upgrade the classroom technology systems used by students.

John Maxie is Rowan County’s Assistant Superintendent and also its Technology Director.

Maxie says the district has to add to its bandwidth space and says that many of its one-thousand laptop and desktop computers are becoming outdated.

Maxie notes that solving those problems is a very expensive proposition.

“To put us where we really need to be we would need probably $500,000 dollars or more to really upgrade and get everything back to where we could function, you know, to a high level. A lot of the online programs and the streaming and that type of thing, really take some pretty good computer systems and most of ours are aging.” –John Maxie

Maxie doesn’t know what the solution is since the federal government doesn’t fund those projects and the state has continued to make cuts to school funding.
