Morgan County Tree Nursery Back In Business

Kentucky Division of Forestry

Governor Beshear and other state and local officials were in West Liberty on Monday (April 21) to celebrate completion of the restoration project at the Morgan County Tree Nursery.

The facility’s buildings were destroyed in the March 2nd, 2012 tornado that ravaged several eastern Kentucky communities. The rebuilt complexes include a new, state-of-the-art processing facility and a five-thousand square foot cooler.

Gov. Beshear says the Kentucky Division of Forestry’s Morgan County operation helps fuel the Commonwealth’s 12-billion dollar timber industry.

“We produce 1.5 million seedlings every year in this nursery and it’s one of only two that we have operated by the state. It is a great thing, not only for Morgan County, but for the entire state.” –Gov. Steve Beshear

The Morgan County facility has operated since 1960. Kentucky’s other tree nursery is in Marshall County.

Governor Beshear says the restored facility near West Liberty is another step for the community on its road to recovery.
