Paynter exhibit on display at RCAC

Morehead State University’s Lee Ann Paynter, visiting assistant professor of art, exhibits the work “SHE” at the Rowan County Arts Center through Dec. 31.

There will be an artist reception Thursday, Nov. 20, from 5-7 p.m. at the Rowan County Arts Center, 205 East Main Street in Morehead.

Born and raised in Boyle County, Paynter holds a BFA degree from the University of Kentucky and an MFA degree in photography and media from California Institute of the Arts.  Her oeuvre consists of traditional methods and digital media, sound design, video and installation. Paynter has both an active socially engaged practice and an active exhibition schedule.

Paynter’s work takes on social and political issues investigating the ideas and agency around intolerance and acceptance, inequality and gender roles, and environmental issues, as well as the media’s role in those representations.  The exhibition “SHE” consists of 15 black and white photographic images that examine feminism and the empowerment of women by exploring gender inequality and oppression.

Additional information is available by contacting Paynter at l.paynter@moreheadstate.edu.
