McBride Tutoring Excellence Award ceremony slated for Nov. 19

The Molly McBride Tutoring Excellence Award dedication and award ceremony will be Wed., Nov. 19, at 3 p.m. in the Tutoring and Learning Center, located in the first-floor Learning Commons of the Camden-Carroll Library.

This new award will be given annually to a tutor who demonstrates a superior level of tutoring skills and caring for MSU students.

The award honors Molly McBride, a TLC tutor until she was killed in a May 2013 car accident.

“Molly was an extraordinary person and a fantastic tutor,” said Alvin Madden-Grider, learning strategies coordinator.  “She helped many MSU students with their studies, and she helped them stay in college and graduate.  It seems fitting that we have such an award in Molly’s name.“

All students, staff and faculty are invited to attend.  There will be a brief ceremony dedicating the award and naming the first recipient.  The event is part of TLC’s Tutoring Appreciation Week, Nov. 16-22.

The TLC tutors are undergraduates who help their fellow students through tutoring mathematics, business, sciences, writing, foreign languages and other subjects.
