A state transportation cabinet official says crews in northeast Kentucky are ready for anything that old man winter might throw at them in the coming months.
According to Allen Blair, the preparations for potential battles to keep snow and ice off area roads began a number of months ago.
Blair says the District-9 office of the State Department of Highways has 24-thousand tons of road salt stored in sheds across Rowan, Fleming and the eight other counties in its service area.
While he believes that should be enough for the winter, the district does have contracts in-place to buy more salt and can also get some from the state’s main supply facility in Louisville, if needed.
