As of 11:30 a.m., Kentucky Department of Highways District 9 personnel reported the following roads were closed or impacted by high water in northeast Kentucky:
- Fleming County - KY 3303 (Plummers Mill Road), milepoint 0-0.5; and KY 367 just north of KY 170 near Nepton; KY 1200 (clogged drain has water over roadway)
- Mason County - KY 324 closed at KY 11 near milepoint 10.8
- Lewis County - KY 989 at AA Highway, milepoint 12.6; and KY 344 between KY 377 and KY 59 intersections
- Boyd County - KY 854 at milepoint 0-1 at KY 1654 and the Carter County line
- Carter County - KY 1654 at the Boyd County line
Continued heavy rainfall and excessive runoff will likely create additional flooding near roadways - especially in Carter, Greenup, Lewis and Mason counties as floodwaters make their way toward the Ohio River. Motorists should watch for water ponding on roads from overflowing ditches and for high water in low-lying areas or where it has covered roadways in the past.
Never drive through high water, and always remember to follow the National Weather Service's advice and "turn around, don't drown." Even a few inches of floodwater can float a car. See http://www.nws.noaa.gov/os/water/tadd/ for more facts.
