MSU Athletics

The Morehead State women's tennis squad knocked off previously unbeaten Eastern Illinois, 4-3, Saturday (March 15) at MSU’s Sadler Courts.

The Panthers (6-1/0-1 OVC) entered the match ranked 74th in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association Division I poll, but the Eagles (4-8/1-0) won four of the six singles matches after dropping the doubles point.

Sophomore Briar Preston defeated Janelle Prisner, 6-3, 6-2 on court one singles. Freshman Andrea Leblanc ousted Kelly Iden, 2-6, 6-1, 6-3 on court two. Mclean won a straight-set (6-2, 6-4) decision over Sephora Boulbahaiem on court three. Freshman Hayley Wild won the fourth point for the Eagles with a 6-0, 6-1 victory over Kamile Stadalninkaite at No. 6.

"I was so happy with our effort today. I can't say enough about the play of Andrea, Hayley and Dominique,” said Head Coach Kevin Fulton.

MSU junior Alex Tachovsky was in the lineup for the first time after transferring from Louisville and becoming eligible this week. She dropped a 6-4, 6-2 contest at No. 4. Sophomore Sandrine Beaule lost a three-set battle at No. 5. LeBlanc and Wild picked up an 8-3 doubles win at No. 3.

"Alex really brought a lot today for us. I look forward to having a lineup at full strength for the rest of the OVC schedule," Fulton added.
