Women's Basketball Scores 95 In Exhibition Victory

MSU Athletics

Senior guards Terrice Robinson and Allie Turner combined for 40 points and nine assists to help the Morehead State women's basketball team score a 95-73 exhibition win over NAIA opponent Kentucky Christian on Friday night (November 1) at MSU’s Johnson Arena.

Robinson collected a team-best 23 points on 9-of-13 from the field and 4-of-7 from three-point range. Turner managed 17 points on 6-of-18 from the floor and 5-of-13 from long distance. Turner also registered a game-high five assists, while Robinson was credited with four. Morehead State handed out 26 helpers on 38 field goals while only committing 16 turnovers.

Robinson and Turner led five Eagles in double figures. Senior guard Shanice Parker contributed 14 points, while junior forward Mackenzie Arledge tossed in 12 and senior guard Tyler Ituen added 11.

"We are pleased with tonight's win," Head Coach Tom Hodges said. "We were able to use 12 players and had the chance to work on a lot of different areas against a quality opponent in KCU."

Arledge also pulled down a game-best 12 rebounds for the contest's only double-double. Morehead State recorded a 43-32 rebounding advantage, including 17-6 on the offensive glass.

Morehead State pushed out to a 10-point lead less than 10 minutes into the contest and held a 56-28 upper hand at intermission. MSU's largest lead of 39 points came with 18:01 remaining.

"We accomplished a lot of things in the first half," Hodges said. "I was especially happy with the way we shared the ball (15 assists in the first half) and the way we forced turnovers (17 in the first half)."

The Eagles knocked down 48 percent from the field (38-of-79) and 35 percent from beyond the arc (12-of-34). KCU hit 47 percent from the floor (24-of-51), but committed 24 miscues. Morehead State registered advantages of 52-32 in paint points, 27-12 in points off turnovers and 38-20 off the bench. Ten different Eagles cracked the scoring column and 12 played.

Kentucky Christian senior guard Tanya Bowens tallied a game-high 34 points. She connected on 11-of-17 from the field, 2-of-3 from three-point range and drilled all 10 free-throw attempts.

Morehead State opens its regular season on Friday when Norfolk State visits Johnson Arena for a special Noon start. Three of MSU's first four regular-season contests are at home.
