Taylor and Pappas Earn Accolades from the Pioneer Football League

MSU Athletics

Morehead State junior defensive end Vaughn Taylor, Jr., and sophomore quarterback Mark Pappas have been honored for their week one play by the Pioneer Football League. Taylor is the league's Defensive Player of the Week, while Pappas garnered the first Offensive Player of the Week award for 2019.

Taylor, Jr., the native of Washington, D.C., wreaked havoc on the Union (Ky.) offense to tune of 3.5 tackles for loss. Included in that was a sack. He also broke up a pass and had a quarterback hurry in the Eagles' 44-7 victory.

He returned this year after leading Morehead State with nine tackles for loss in 2018.

Pappas, the Avon Lake, Ohio, product making his first career start, guided MSU to two scoring drives of more than 90 yards and threw for 236 yards and three touchdowns on a 15-of-21 effort. He did not throw an interception and also rushed from a yard out to record the Eagles' inaugural touchdown of 2019 late in the first quarter Thursday night.

Morehead State heads on the road for the first time this season Saturday when the Eagles take on nationally-ranked FCS foe Illinois State at 7:30 p.m. ET from Normal, Ill.
