Solid Second Half Not Enough as Women's Hoops Fall at Austin Peay

MSU Athletics

Women's basketball received another stellar effort from Jada Claude and battled for a strong second half, but it wasn't enough, as the Eagles fell on the road to Austin Peay, 66-49.

The Governors built their lead in the first half, primarily on the strength of a 23-13 rebounding advantage, including 10 of those boards coming on the offensive end. The Eagles fought back with a much improved second half, however, limiting their opponents to only a single three-pointer and forcing them into nine turnovers as they fought to try and get back into the game.

The Eagles were led by sophomore Jada Claude, who posted her third double-double of the season with 15 points and 11 rebounds. Claude was aided by Alana Denson, who connected on four shots from beyond the arc and finished with a season-high 14 points.

The Eagles stood toe-to-toe with the Governors through the first quarter on the strength of balanced scoring and effective defensive pressure, but a 10-0 run pushed Austin Peay out to a 26-12 advantage midway through the second quarter, and after trading three point baskets to end the quarter, the Eagles went to locker room behind 34-20.  Morehead State settled into the second half, including battling the Governors to an even fourth quarter, but it wasn't enough to make up the difference.

Next up, Morehead State returns home to Johnson Arena Wednesday, where they will take on the Skyhawks of UT-Martin. The game is scheduled for tip off at 5:00 PM ET.
