Morehead State Public Radio is pleased to announce the recipients of two station awards, presented annually to a student intern, volunteer, or work-study.
Gwendolyn Akers, a senior English major with teacher certification from Ashland, received the 2026 Community Advisory Board Student Leadership Award. Braeden Trent, a senior music education major from Morehead, received the 2026 MSPR Outstanding Student Award.
Selected by MSPR’s Community Advisory Board, the Student Leadership Award is based on personal achievements, leadership, volunteerism, and involvement at Morehead State University or in the community.
Selected by MSPR staff, the Outstanding Student Award is based on leadership, dependability, initiative, and personal development, as demonstrated through quality work and an overall commitment to MSPR.
“I congratulate Gwendolyn and Braeden on their success,” said Paul Hitchcock (Class of 1988), MSPR general manager. “Their leadership, hard work, dedication and service to the community are commendable.”
MSPR relies on student work-studies, interns, and volunteers, who perform a variety of roles, including news reporting, studio announcing, and production.
“WMKY offers hands-on opportunities in a professional and educational environment,” added Hitchcock. “We value the hard work by our students and their commitment to our listeners.”
You can listen to WMKY at 90.3FM online, via a phone app, or through a smart speaker (“Play WMKY”).
