Montgomery County industrial park receives more funding to complete site preparation

Jason Rainey

A year after ground was broken on an industrial site in Montgomery County, officials are sharing the project received more funding. The new industrial park, called Walters Industrial Park, saw its beginning last year when officials purchased 165 acres of land in the county. Now, Kentucky Product Development Initiative (KPDI) funding is being invested into the site.

Jason Rainey, Executive Director for the Mount Sterling Montgomery County Industrial Authority, said the money is being used to get the park ready for business.

“We were fortunate enough last year to receive funding and approval through that program where we were able to acquire the site. Do some initial due diligence and initial engineering, site preparation. This round we received approval. That’s going to be related to site preparation and utilities on that site,” said Rainey.

The location is the third industrial park in Montgomery County, with the other two parks almost at capacity. He said the park’s location will foster job growth.

“It’s a significant thing for our region. When you look at the greater Lexington region, we’re right on that in-between. Lexington to the West, Morehead to the West. I think we’re well positioned where we could attract a lot of workers,” said Rainey.

Walters Industrial Park will add more space for existing companies to expand and new businesses to come to the region. Rainey said the park should allow companies to purchase parcels of land by summer 2026.
