Summer break means lots of things for kids. Outdoor activities, camps, and summer holidays, just to name a few. However, it also means some families struggle to provide enough food for their children, who are reliant upon free meal programs during the school year.
Christina Blankenship, one of the managers at Mr. Gatti’s in Morehead, said their restaurant wants to do what it can to support the community, especially when times are tough.
“We ended up doing it because, I mean, I know kids are out for the summer for school and some people don’t get the opportunity to get free food. So, we decided to do that for the whole month of June and July,” said Blankenship.
Blankenship said any child 14 and under who visits the restaurant on Wednesdays from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. will receive a free personal pizza and drink. She said the owner of the restaurant will cover the costs of the meal and encourages anyone in need to come out.
