The city of Morehead recently announced the launch of its Summer Town Hall Series. The new initiative is designed to bring city leadership directly to neighborhoods across the community. Mayor of the City of Morehead, Laura White-Brown, said there was a similar program in 2020, but the council is adding a new element.
“We want to come to you. And so, we want to make it as easy as we can for people to come and share thoughts, concerns, ideas. So, we will kind of be rotating locations. We’re going to start at the city hall. We’re actually going to do one there in the old council room. We’re going to go to the Carl Perkins Center, and I think the last one is actually going to be at Starbucks on the north end,” said White-Brown.
Officials said community members often voice ideas about recreational opportunities or ask if city improvements are underway. White-Brown said each session will provide city department updates, an open Q&A with officials, and an informal setting for community input. The mayor urged residents to attend and bring questions and concerns to these Summer Town Halls.
“We are the closest community with a public university, a regional hospital, Walmart, and Kroger. So, we draw a lot of people into this community. So, what can we be doing to be as welcoming as we can be, but also at the same time satisfy the needs of those that live here and work here,” said White-Brown.
The first session is May 20 at 6 p.m. The second is on June 24, and the last is on July 29.
