Morehead’s Annual Spring Cleanup Week is Monday, April 21 through Friday, April 25. During the week, curbside trash pickup services will be offered to Morehead residents at no additional cost. April 26 is Free Disposal Day at Waste Management Landfill in Rowan County.

Tyler Brown, Environmental Services Coordinator for Rowan County, said Free Disposal Day gives people in Morehead a fresh start for the spring.

“It’s our intention to start out the spring helping people get things cleaned up that they’ve had maybe stored around their place,” said Brown.

No hazardous materials, tires, or appliances will be accepted by the Waste Management Landfill on the Free Disposal Day. The free curbside pickup offered by the City of Morehead during Annual Spring Cleanup Week also excludes tires, paint, oil, and other hazardous materials. Brush may be picked up for a small fee.

Brown said Free Disposal Day helps discourage illegal dumping.

“Sometimes people do complain about the fees associated at the landfill when they are trying to get rid of stuff, and a lot of the time, you do see it end up on the side of the road or over a hillside somewhere. So, we try to do this at least four times a year and it just helps to get things cleaned up,” said Brown.

Any Morehead residents wishing to have trash items collected up can call the Public Works Garage at (606) 784-4503.
