A local community fundraiser is already hard at work preparing for the holiday season. Organizers of Rowan County Christmas recently held an informational meet and greet at the Morehead Conference Center. Board members said the event served to spread awareness and touch base with community members and local business owners.
Austin Harless, a board member for Rowan County Christmas, said it’s important to lay out the foundation early in the year.
“We’re actually at work for distribution day starting January 1st. So, we’re working throughout the year to really target and just try to maximize the impact we can make come December,” said Harless. “So, the work starts now, and we reap the reward later”.
Misty Wyrick, lead chair of the non-profit, said fundraising is a year-round mission.
“We are going to be hosting a tea party in June, we will have a golf fundraiser in August. Through the year we have different fundraisers where we have raffle drawings and things that we post on Facebook,” said Wyrick.
She said a chili bowl dinner and a pickleball tournament are also on the schedule this year.
The organization works throughout the year to collect toys and meal vouchers for seniors and families in need during the holiday season. Board members said the group is accepting volunteer applications for those who want to help and applications for those who wish to receive gifts or vouchers at the end of the year.
More information is available on the group’s Facebook page.
