An eastern Kentucky organization is holding a writer’s workshop in May focused on helping writers improve their skill sets.

James Gifford, CEO and Senior Editor for the Jesse Stuart Foundation, said the 2025 Jack Ellis Writers Workshop will feature two days of classes, lectures, and activities.

“These workshops are concurrent sessions, and so the workshop participants will have an opportunity to choose the session that is most compatible with their interest and writing goals,” said Gifford.

The event will feature ten different instructors who will teach the seminars. Gifford said the instructors have prepared various educational topics to cover.

“The people who are providing the instruction are people who are working under the assumption that that they’re helping people who have already done some writing to improve their skill set. And so in general terms, we assume that we will be dealing with out-of-school adults,” said Gifford.

Despite this assumption, Gifford said the workshop is open to anyone who wishes to attend, including college-aged individuals and students.

The workshop is named after the late Jack Ellis, who served as the director of the Camden Carroll Library at Morehead State University for many years.

Registration is open online now, and the event will be May 9 and 10 at Greenbo Lake State Resort Park. It costs $50 to attend, which will be collected on the first day of activities.
