Frontier Housing, in partnership with the Housing Authority of Maysville, has received preliminary approval for a more than $2 million, 50-unit multifamily housing development in east Maysville.
Tom Manning-Beavin, President and CEO of Frontier Housing, said the new development will replace part of an aging low-income residential complex.
“The development that we’ll be decommissioning, some of those pieces of rental assistance are 75 years old. The units are very difficult to maintain. Most of the bedrooms and bathrooms are upstairs. Very few, if any, of the doorways are 36 inches wide, so there's a lot of accessibility and mobility challenges in the current development,” said Manning-Beavin.
The project will be funded through a $1.1 million Low-Income Housing Tax Credit allocation, and a $1 million grant from the National Housing Trust Fund. Both funds are administered by the Kentucky Housing Corporation.
Manning-Beavin added he expects construction to take a few years.
“The build will probably last 15 to 18 months. We haven't hammered out that construction schedule yet, that’s all part of the technical solution phase. So that would put us late 2026, early 2027, having the construction complete,” said Manning-Beavin.
Officials said after construction has been concluded, the Housing Authority of Maysville will retain ownership of the approximately 4-acre site, while Frontier Housing will own and operate the facility.
