The Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources is offering many classes for those who want to learn more about hunting and fishing. Most of these more than 300 classes are offered at little to no cost.

Classes are available in-person or online. Hunters must complete their hunter education certification before any hunting period this year. Unless exempt, Kentucky requires hunters born after 1974 to earn their certification to hunt legally.

State officials report Kentucky’s turkey hunting season is April 5 and 6 for youth hunters, followed by the general season April 12 through May 4. Landowners and tenants who are hunting on their own land are not required to have the training, though it’s recommended for all hunters.

Kentucky Fish and Wildlife also hosts the Kentucky Becoming an Outdoors Woman, which is designed for adult women who are interested in the outdoors while building confidence in their skills. Also, the Hook and Cook workshops equip anglers of all skill levels with the knowledge they need to improve their fishing and safely enjoy the fish they catch.
