VITA offering free tax help at Rowan County Public Library

After weather cancellations in February, Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) has rescheduled free tax prep at the Rowan County Public Library.

VITA will be at the library from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday, March 21. The day of tax prep is focused on providing help to low-to-moderate income families in the community. On site tax professionals will be working to smooth out common mistakes while filing.

Officials report around 25% of people who are eligible for income tax credit do not claim it. Additionally, people often forget to collect tax information from all their employers for the tax year. Resolving these issues could mean more substantial tax returns and additional help for households with children.

Participants are asked to bring a valid photo ID, Social Security Cards for each person included on the return, and documents like W2s and 1099s.

Appointments can made at (859) 608-1375, and walk-ins are accepted.
