A Kentucky non-profit organization is moving. Radio Eye broadcasts audio recordings of current news, public service, and general interest information for those who are blind and print-disabled.
Lucy Stone, Executive Director of Radio Eye, said following the termination of their lease with the Lexington Public Library, the organization began looking into next steps. After passing around a few ideas, it was decided that operations would move to a new building off Richmond Road in Lexington. Stone said the group will have some time to get settled in their new home.
“We’re hoping to have everything up and running in March, and we have to be fully out of the library by the end of April. So that gives us a month of two to kind of wrap up loose ends, finish packing, that kind of thing, and getting everything situated,” said Stone.
Stone added that she doesn’t expect the move to cause any disruptions to their services.
“The nice thing is that we have a huge support of remote readers, so even when our studios theoretically will shut down for a week or two to in-person reading, we’ll still be able to put out the content, because it will be read at home. So, the streams will still be live, our telephone broadcasts, everything like that, that will still be on air and we shouldn’t really skip a beat,” said Stone.
Stone said this move was only possible because of their dedicated volunteer and listener base.
