Arctic temperatures in Kentucky set to persevere

Cold weather gripping the WMKY listening region is expected to continue through the indefinite future, according to weather officials.

Hal Klingenberg, meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Jackson, said temperatures will remain frosty over the next few days.

“Overall, there’s no real change in the pattern seen for, well, the indefinite future. It is looking like we’ll warm up briefly, maybe close to normal, Friday and Saturday, but that’s just briefly before another artic cold front pushes through,” said Klingenberg.

This week, temperatures are expected to reach a low of 2 degrees Fahrenheit, with highs not breaking the freezing mark.

Klingenberg added that although the cold will be sticking around, snow isn’t likely to make any major reappearances.

“It is looking like we’re going to see some rain in the time frame of probably Friday night, Saturday. And then, once that next Artic front comes through, I wouldn’t rule out a change to some snow briefly, maybe some snow showers early next week in the cold air. But at this point we’re not really looking for any significant winter storms,” said Klingenberg.

Experts at the NWS warn windchill could plummet feels-like temperatures below 20 degrees.
