MSU theatre program presents “You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown!”

Samantha Morrill

For the first time in five years, Morehead State University’s theatre program is presenting a musical. “You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown!” is based on Charles M. Schulz's Peanuts Comic Strip. It follows Charlie Brown and friends as they navigate growing up and life lessons.

Octavia Biggs, director of the play and Morehead State's Little Theatre Company, said her costume designer and assistant director, Summer Little, has created a spectacle.

“There are some surprise elements in the show that will wow you, so I call them magic moments because the actor will be transformed on stage from this costume that they start out into the typical Charlie Brown iconic costume look,” said Biggs.

Assistant Director Summer Little said the musical forced her to adapt.

“It has been a very different process from like a straight play. Like, I'm noticing all the differences, and also as costume designer. There's so many differences that you wouldn't consider in a normal straight play versus costumes for a musical, and I think it's just broadening my knowledge,” said Little

“You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown!” is musically directed by Dr. Eric Brown, associate professor of music-voice. It will feature a series of vignettes featuring moments from the Peanuts world, as well as songs like "My Blanket and Me”, “Suppertime”, and “Happiness." The musical is being performed through November 10.

Octavia Biggs said the goal is to perform at least one musical each year.
