The Caudill College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences is hosting the 4th annual Justice festival, taking place Tuesday, October 8. Officials said the gathering aims to work toward combating various issues including ageism, ableism, racism, and homophobia.
Dr. Sylvia Henneberg is the Dean of the Caudill College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences at MSU. She said the festival allows attendees to take time from their busy schedules to experience a day of mindfulness and reflect on social justice.
“And the way it plays out is that we have a variety of sessions, which we call breakout sessions, as well as a keynote session during which we try to practice those things and of course also inform each other and have exchanges about our disciplines and about how we perceive the issue of social justice,” said Henneberg.
The festival will include keynote speaker Dr. Benjamin Fitzpatrick, Assistant Professor of History at Morehead State University. Dr. Fitzpatrick will be speaking on "Why Confronting Harsh History is Essential for Protecting Democracy".
“We want to adopt some of the ideas into our lives that we develop and that is the ultimate goal here. Of course, we want to have an impact on our community and ultimately on the world, and we want to make a difference,” said Henneberg.
The festival takes place from 8 a.m. to 4:40 p.m. at the Adron Doran University Center at MSU.
