The community is invited to come celebrate the Morehead All-Stars 10-U little league team after their State Championship win last month. All-Stars coach Rob Ward said this is the second year in a row that Morehead has taken home the title. 2023 was the first year Morehead ever won the championship, making this year the first repeat title win in the program’s history.
After beating winning teams from districts 7, 2, and, 3 in a single round robin, the All Stars moved on to the State Championship game. On Wednesday, July 24 the team faced off again against the District 3 team and scored 6 runs to 4 over 6 innings of play. All-Stars coach Rob Ward said the city of Morehead is a big part of the team’s success.
“A big thank you to the community, anytime these kids ask for help or need something this community always backs them up. And anytime there’s an organization or team or somebody in need of this town, no matter how big or small it is they always back up their people, and I love that. And the biggest thing we like to say is ‘We Are Morehead,’” Ward said.
Ward said the athletes’ on-field skill is what wins their games, but their values are what help them grow into responsible adults.
“And they’re just great kids. Everywhere we went and played, in districts or in the state, we got a lot of compliments about how well-mannered our kids were, and the sportsmanship they showed. So, that meant a lot more than just winning ball games. The ball games end but, the sportsmanship and manners last forever,” said Ward.
The All-Stars are being celebrated at Monday’s city council meeting, to be held in the Morehead Conference Center at 6 p.m. More information and registration for the 2025 Little League season can be found online at morehead-ky.gov.
