Officials report economic boon coming to Maysville will create more than 100 new jobs

A multi-million-dollar investment is coming to the region. Governor Andy Besher recently announced Mitsubishi Electric will be repurposing an existing facility in Mason County to create highly efficient heat pump compressors.

Officials said as the automotive industry has diversified beyond the internal combustion engine, Mitsubishi Electric has worked to identify a viable alternative for its manufacturing facility in the community. Governor Beshear said their plan will bring with it more jobs.

“The $143.5 million investment will support 122 high-wage, full-time jobs in Mason County. Last November, the US Department of Energy announced that this project was selected for a $50 million grant. As the second largest employer in Maysville, Mitsubishi Electric has produced automotive components in Kentucky since 1995, this will transition that facility,” said Beshear.

Officials said investments in renovations and facility modernizations will help reduce building emissions and lessen environmental impact, consistent with Mitsubishi Electric’s goal of making all of its factories net-zero by 2030.

This announcement comes after the governor’s recent Asia trip where he met with leaders of several different companies with ties to the Commonwealth. He said this facility will revolutionize the economic landscape of Maysville.

“This would be the first-ever US factory to build advanced twin rotary variable capacity compressors. I had the privilege of meeting with them during last week’s trip to Japan, and we reaffirmed our desire to continue to grow together and they reaffirmed their commitment to Maysville and Mason County. They bragged about the workforce that they have there and investing in them,” said Beshear.

Economic Cabinet officials said they believe this is the largest project in Mason County in 20 years.
