A non-profit organization in the commonwealth is celebrating half a century of operation. Officials with Frontier Housing said the group has used the past 50 years to provide affordable housing in several eastern Kentucky communities.
Tom Manning-Beavin is the president and CEO of Frontier Housing. He said over the next year the organization will be releasing 50 stories of their efforts in the 22 counties they serve. In addition, he said Frontier Housing will conduct at least one project in each of these 22 counties.
“That may be a new home, that may be a rental house, that may be a home repair job. That may be, literally, a wheelchair ramp. But we want to do something in all the counties that we’re currently trying to serve,” said Manning-Beavin.
Manning-Beavin said after the year of projects and development, they want to bring the community together to recognize the work with a gala.
“So, at the end of our 50th year, we’re going to have a big party. Going to try to bring as many people as we can just to celebrate because it’s been a remarkable 50 years and I think we’re setting ourselves up for even more impact in the future,” said Manning-Beavin
Manning-Beavin said Frontier has constructed over 840 homes, and 100 rental units, and repaired over 400 homes in 50 years of operation. Additionally, they have large projects planned for communities in their service region, including Morehead and Maysville.
The half-century gala celebration will be held in March of 2025.
