Armored Truck Pull to raise money for Rowan County Special Olympics

Morehead Police Department

The third annual Armored Truck Pull hosted by the Morehead Police Department is returning downtown on Saturday, April 13.

Officials said the goal is to pull the police department’s 40,000 lbs. armored truck. Kerri Moran, Assistant 911 Director, said anyone can participate.

“We even have it to where juveniles can participate if their parents sign the waiver. We have teams of 10 or less, $200 a team, and we encourage anyone to participate,” said Moran.

Moran said raised funds will go towards supporting the Rowan County Special Olympics, a frequent partner of the MPD.

“We’ve always partnered with them. We do quite a bit of things, we participate with the “Just as I Am” which is for special needs children and adults. Special Olympics has just always been a big part of us. We enjoy it, the kids really enjoy the interactions that they have with the officers,” said Moran.

Moran said anyone can participate in the event. Registration opens at 9 a.m. with the event beginning at 10. Teams of 10 or fewer participants are allowed, and the registration fee is 200 dollars.

Anyone who wants to can come watch and cheer on competitors. Moran said there will be team trophies given out for Fastest Time, Wackiest Outfit, Largest Team Donation, and Dead Last.

The pull will be held at the Battson-Oats intersection and is expected to last about three hours. More information can be found by contacting the Morehead Police Department non-emergency line or by contacting Moran at 606-784-7511.
