MSU Community Baby Shower aims to provide resources to new and expecting parents

Lisa Wallace

Any planning, expectant, or adoptive parents are invited to attend a community baby shower event hosted by Morehead State University Nursing. Officials said the free event on Saturday has a variety of resources and door prizes.

A panel will be held featuring an OB-GYN, a family physician, and a midwife. Attendees will be provided with cards upon entry to submit any questions they may have to the panel.

Lisa Wallace is an Assistant Professor of Nursing at the MSU CHER building. She said the event will be informative.

“The information will include like vaccine information, how to do safe care, or make your house or your home safe for a child. It may have to do with other child safety things. There’s a lot of mental health issues in our counties and concerns, and we have of course substance use, vaping, smoking,” said Wallace.

Wallace added she hopes the event helps parents connect with people and resources.

“We will have some breastfeeding support people there; we’re also going to have the HANDS people there. I’ve also contacted the police department and they may be coming to do some child IDs,” said Wallace.

Door prize donations of any type are currently being accepted. Organizers said they’re looking for items that would be useful to a new parent or child. Wallace can be contacted at l.wallace@moreheadstate.edu to pick up donations.

The community baby shower event takes place from 8:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the Carl D. Perkins Center.
