Doves of Gateway is looking for volunteers for this year’s 16th annual Shop and Share Donation Drive. People and stores in Rowan, Bath, Menifee, Morgan and Montgomery counties will be participating in the event, Saturday February 10th.

Melissa Cooper is the Assistant Director of Doves. She said this is one of the shelter’s most important drives of the year.

“This is the biggest canned food drive that we have every year. You know we don’t do a lot of drives so this is our biggest one, and then we do our annual auction in October for Domestic Violence Awareness month. So, we are extremely grateful for everything that comes in on this day,” she said.

Cooper added stores and shelters across the state are partnering to gather donated items.

“This drive is to benefit all local fifteen domestic violence shelters throughout the state of Kentucky. So, the items that we get will come to our shelter. So, they are going to be used by our shelter residents but then if we have non-residents or if we have residents who have exited into their own housing that might still need a food box, we will be able to take these and provide those to them,” she said.

Officials said the drive is an all-day event lasting from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Volunteers are needed to help pass out shopping lists, shop for items and transport the donations to the shelter.
