A KY health insurance open enrollment deadline is approaching

KYNECT, Kentucky’s health insurance marketplace, is currently open for all Kentuckians to enroll for medical and dental benefits.

State officials said people can shop for plans until January 16. Kentuckians who enroll for insurance by December 15 will be eligible for coverage to start on January 1. Those who sign up for plans between December 16 and the final deadline of January 16 will see their plans go into effect on February 1.

Lieutenant Governor Jacqueline Coleman said anyone without insurance can receive coverage through KYNECT.

“If you don’t have health coverage through another source, such as an employer, Medicaid, K-CHIP, Medicare, or TRICARE, you can start enrolling in a health plan today on KYNECT,” she said.

Additionally, Coleman said Kentuckians can get help securing benefits from the marketplace.

“If you have any questions, we have a team of people who are here that can help you at no cost,” she said. “So, if you need assistance, or if you are ready to enroll, go to kynect.ky.gov, or you can call 1-855-459-6328.”

All plans offered on the marketplace cover 10 essential health benefits, including emergency services, hospitalization, lab services and prescription drugs. In addition, every plan covers certain preventive services at no cost, and coverage cannot be dropped or premiums raised because of health issues.
