Eastern Kentuckians will have the chance to see a partial solar eclipse on Saturday, October 14. In the Morehead area, the eclipse will begin around 10:37 a.m. and end at roughly 1:33 p.m.
Pamela Clark is the Director of Morehead State University’s Star Theater. She said the Star Theater is holding a viewing party for the eclipse.
“People can come and use the solar scopes and we have eclipse glasses here to view the eclipse. We have shows scheduled anyways, because this is one of our public event Saturdays, so we have shows at 11 a.m., 1:30 p.m., and 6:30 p.m. Fortunately, the best time to view is between our first and second show, the peak viewing at 1:10 p.m.,” Clark said.
The Star Theater Director also said people who want to look at the eclipse must use eclipse glasses or something similar.
“Even with the glasses, you shouldn’t be looking at the Sun for more than two or three minutes,” Clark said.
She added that there is another solar eclipse coming within the next 6 months.
“We are going to have a full eclipse, or nearly a full eclipse, 97 percent, on April 8 of 2024.”
Weather could be an issue for some hoping to see the partial eclipse on Saturday. As of Thursday afternoon, the weekend forecast called for cloudy skies and showers.
